On June 20, 2018, Goldsmith plead no contest to and was convicted of a charge of obtaining money by false pretenses. Under § 15.2-1707 on crimes of moral turpitude, Goldsmith was decertified.

Decertification Cause: False Entries or Destruction of Records by Officers, in the General District Court of York County

Officer Michael Nyantakyi shot and killed Marcus-David Peters while he was experiencing a mental health crisis. The encounter was less than two minutes long before he was killed. Peters was a high school biology teacher. He was unarmed.

Juan Markee Jones, 25, of Danville was shot and killed by Danville Police.

Officers Glenn Gohlke & Dustin Holmes said they saw a group of kids on Lambeth Rd, and believed the group contained a known man with outstanding warrants. When officers approached, the group ran away. Police claim a child in the group brandished what they believed to be a weapon. Both officers fired their guns and shot the child. The child was badly injured and taken to the hospital by ambulance. He survived. His name was not released.

Norfolk Police officers Santare and Luketic were named in Knight v. Commonwealth (0323-19-1) for conducting an unlawful search on a vehicle.

Justin P. Nelson, the officer involved, did not appear on rosters of Danville Police employees requested by FOIA in late 2022.

Following a 911 call about a man who was suicidal, Chesterfield Police shot and killed Kenneth Perna-Rutsky, 38, during a "standoff" after a SWAT team converged on his house and a police plane flew above.

On May 10, 2018, Keith Andre Robinson filed a federal lawsuit ("Robinson v. White") under the Civil Rights Act against Norfolk Police officers J. E. Myers, M. Pierce, and H. White. The complaint alleged the officers engaged in unlawful search and seizure on Dec. 22, 2017 and robbed him of over $8,000 of his savings without cause to do so, violating his Fourth Amendment rights.

Off-duty, current employee Officer Robert Misegades kills 15-year-old Jacob L. Baumgart while meeting up to sell video game system.

Officer R. A. Howell went to Fairfield Drive after receiving a report of a domestic altercation. Victor Bray and his fiancee had reportedly been having an argument and were outside on the front porch. A shot was fired, according to police, and then Officer Howell shot and killed 31-year-old Bray in front of his fiancee.

Officer Jeremy Durocher shot Deontrace Ward, 18, in the back. Ward was a burglary suspect who was fleeing.

Armentrout was named in a complaint for "destruction of city property" filed by Sergeant Shaw. An Internal Affairs investigation (Case # 20170912) overseen by Sergeant Lemons was launched on Sept. 12, 2017. By Oct. 17, 2017, the police had completed their investigation of themselves. They ruled the complaint founded.

A lawsuit was filed against Newport News Police officers Neidengard and Hayward claiming they had engaged in unlawful arrest after conducting a pretextual traffic stop.

Internal Affairs data shows that on June 6, 2017 Captain Luzader began investigating a complaint accusing Kimmell of sexual harassment. On July 3, 2017, Internal Affairs closed its investigation (Case #20170606) and ruled the complaint founded in part.

On November 22, 2017, Linwood Lester Rivera, Sr. filed a court complaint under the Civil Rights Act against Portsmouth Police K-9 and Chesapeake Police officers for events that took place on March 4, 2017. The complaint alleges unlawful search and seizure, unlawful arrest, unlawful detention, and abuse while in custody for over five months. Although most officers in this incident cannot be identified, Chesapeake General District Court records indicate that Officer Russell Sawatzke was the officer to charge Rivera on the day in question.

A civil rights lawsuit was filed against Vaught, Hulse, and Davenport for threatening and falsely arresting an individual serving as a Criminal Informant.

Loratio L. Dantzler filed a civil rights complaint against the City of Newport News, Jamie Acree, and Brandon Bartley alleging that he was unlawfully shot.

Fairfax County sheriff's deputy Patrick McPartlin shot and killed 29-year-old Yovani Amaya Gomez, a medical patient, on the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus.

"....That “a former CCPD police officer revealed to the press that the CCPD was requiring officers to make two (2) to three (3) traffic stops per day and one (1) arrest per day” (SAC at para. 29) (emphasis added);

That “CCPD, with the insistence and oversight of Defendants Kelly and Dupuis, promulgated its [arrest quota] policy in a document titled ‘Chesterfield County Employee Development Program,’ which stated that officers ‘must maintain the shift average of traffic stops and that the shift ‘average was between two and three traffic stops’ per day, and, further, officers shall ‘maintain the expectation of one arrest per day’” (SAC at para. 31) (emphasis added);

That “the CCPD, through Defendant Kelly, confirmed at the time that they had no intention of terminating thhe use of Arrest Quotas. Instead, the CCPD continued to enforce the Arrest Quotas for their officers until long after Mr. Howell’s wrongful arrest....”
